The Story of Lanvin, Hennes & Mauritz
Shirt: Lanvin, Shoes: Paris Hilton
In recent years H&M has done collaborations of lines with high end designers. This list has included Karl Lagerfeld, Jimmy Choo, Stella McCartney and Roberto Cavalli. Considering that their collaboration with Versace is right around the corner I decided to write a abridged version my story of Lanvin’s Launch.
Courtney and I went to the store in San Diego that was selling the line as early as we were told we would be allowed. The mall wasn’t letting people wait in line until 6am, so we got there about 5:30. We thought we’d be clever and wait right outside the mall so we could be first in line. Turns out they changed it to 5am without notifying us. Why wouldn’t they notify us?? So we waited eagerly behind 60 people for our turn.
The rules were, you could only buy two of each item in one size. Which hardly makes sense. Why would anyone need two of a certain item in the same size? Why would they need to buy a small and a medium and a large? My inquiries were quickly answered when they started letting people in at the store’s opening. People were there to buy items at a reasonable price and make a profit off of selling them to people who wanted the items but weren’t able to make it to a store that carried the collection at 5 am.
GAHH, just thinking about it makes me furious all over again. One man who had stood in front of us, we had figured he was standing in line for something for his daughter, which would be incredibly sweet, cleaned out what was left of the collection. We, luckily, were able to sign up for one item each that was in the window display and eventually I found the shirt above as a return the day I went to pick up my precious item. But we pretty were struck down driving home empty handed after waiting in the rain (did I mention it was raining?)
H&M if you happen to be reading this, please change the rules for us fashion enthusiasts. We only need one or two items in the collection on the initial day to have a piece we love.
An image from the morning before our enthusiasm was washed away.
