Death by an Oxford Flat

Dress: Urban Outfitters, Bag: Vintage, Oxfords: Target

I may have mentioned my story of the oxfords before, but here it is in full length: I discovered the glory of oxfords two years ago while looking through images on one of my favorite blogs. The Satorialist written by Scott Schuman, is a collection of photographs taken by him all over the world. However, he resides mostly in Europe, who seems to be at least a quarter decade ahead of us in terms of fashion.
Anyway, I saw these things on people’s feet, just quirky enough to make the people in San Diego, California wonder. (Then again, anything other than a pair of rainbows might make certain people wonder down there.) I’m sure when you first saw it you thought it too: They kind of look like men’s shoes. Oh well, I started my hunt for them. Nowadays I am much more educated in how to find fashion items than I used to be; my mantra is “You can find anything on the internet, if you know how.”
Nonetheless,  I began my search with far less knowledge at hand. They were nowhere to be found, as it usually is for me. Except for Steven Madden, which had an entire category dedicated to the name, but only one that actually resembled what I wanted. Eventually, I caved and bought them. Well what I actually bought was death to my feet. To this day, through the numerous high heels, they are still the most uncomfortable things I have ever owned. I wore them to school one day and walked around in the most interesting way, imagine you had something continuously slicing the back of your foot open with a very dull knife, everyone must have though I was a nut.
I later bought the pair in these pictures for a fraction of the price from Target. Of course, within several months they were everywhere. You could probably find a great pair at Forever 21 for $10 if you looked now. But the novelty and shock factor have slightly worn off for me. This is the good and bad of wanting something before it exists, it is almost impossibly to find and you pay way more for it, but the good part is, you can wear them longer before the trend passes. I now own several pairs of oxfords and I still love them all (except for the one, which I keep hidden the back of closet incase they decide to attack me again) but I learned an important lesson from these shoes.
